Google Fi Voicemail & Message Backup Guide

Your messages and voicemails don't transfer automatically when you switch carriers. Here's how to keep them safe before leaving Google Fi.

Voicemail Backup

Method 1: Fi App Export

In the Fi app, open Voicemail → Share → Save to Drive.

This saves individual voicemails as audio files to your Google Drive.

Method 2: Google Voice Integration

You can also use Google Voice to forward copies to email.

Enable email forwarding in Google Voice settings for automatic backup.

SMS Backup

Method 1: Google One Phone Backup

Enable Google One Phone Backup in Settings.

• Go to Settings → Google → Backup

• Turn on "Back up to Google Drive"

• Include SMS messages in backup

Method 2: SMS Backup & Restore

Alternatively, use SMS Backup & Restore on Android.

• Download from Google Play Store

• Create XML backup file

• Save to cloud storage or local device

Call History Backup

Google Takeout: Export your call history from Google account data.

Fi App: Screenshot important call logs before canceling.

Third-party apps: Use call log backup apps from the Play Store.

Before Starting Port

Back up all data while your Fi account is still active.

Keep Fi service active until the port completes.

Verify all backups are accessible before Fi account closes.

Important Notes

⚠️ Act quickly: Back up data before canceling or porting out.

⚠️ Multiple copies: Save backups in multiple locations (cloud, local, email).

⚠️ Test restores: Verify you can access backed up data.

⚠️ Privacy: Be mindful of where you store sensitive message content.
