How to Port Out of Google Voice to Another Carrier

Porting your number out of Google Voice is straightforward once you unlock it for transfer. Whether you're switching to a mobile carrier or moving to a business line, Google Voice makes it simple to take your number with you.

Steps to Port Out

1

Sign in to Google Voice

Go to voice.google.com and sign in with your Google account.

2

Access Transfer Settings

Go to Settings → Account → Transfer your number.

3

Unlock Your Number

Click Unlock next to your number (a $3 fee applies).

4

Get Your Account Details

Copy your account number (your Google Voice number) and PIN (last four digits of your account number unless changed).

5

Initiate the Port

Provide these details to your new carrier to initiate the port.

⏱️ Timeline

Transfers usually complete within 24–48 hours for mobile carriers. During the process, your Google Voice service will continue to work until the transfer finishes.

💡 Pro Tip

If your number was originally a Google Workspace (business) number, it must first be moved to a personal Google account before porting out.
